HOLIDAY PLAID MIX

Dreaming of plaid. We all know it’s no secret that I’m plaid obsessed and specifically around this time I go way overboard with the print. This year, I had the bright idea of mixing all the plaids in my closet to remix my wardrobe and try something new. I’m no stranger to print mixing, but mixing the plaids is definitely a new one for me. There’s legit a science to this because you don’t want to look like your going to a tacky day event and mixing prints can get tacky real quick if you don’t do it the right way, so today on the blog, I’ll share a few tips on mixing plaids for an effortless, fashion forward look that makes you look like one of the cool kids, yeah I said it, LOL. 🙂 😝

BLENDING LIKE COLORS

Sometimes, all you need is to mix plaids that have at least one of the same color in it. I have the color navy in my blazer and plaid pants and that same color is reflected in my shoes too. This ties it all together and the outfit flows a whole lot better that way. There are exceptions to this. You don’t have to match all the time, but if you’re a plaid mixing newbie, finding the same color in all your separate pieces is a great beginners choice. I don’t typically play it safe, as I’m sure you already know, but for this I will.

BREAK IT UP

I like to break up my plaids with a solid color. I did a white top to break up my plaid pants and jacket. You can easily break it up with a black or neutral color. This is a great way to play it safe if you’re new to the plaid mixing game.

MATCHING ACCESSORIES

Usually, I’m a little crazier with my accessories, blending whatever feels good at the moment, but for this look, I kept it simple and added a mustard yellow hat to draw in the yellow in my pants and did all over gold accessories. Sometimes, if nothing else is matching and you want to match head to toe, using your accessories to bring the whole look together is key.

SIMPLE, BUT FUN MAKEUP

So you don’t want to look like a total train wreck, so if you’re gonna mix prints, and if you’re gonna to mix plaids, your make-up look is key too. It’s kind of like your hair; I can’t stand dressing up if my hair isn’t done, it just throws the whole look off if you know what I mean, maybe you don’t, but still, LOL. 😂  I’m a simple girl when it comes to make-up, with the exception of pageants, I try to keep it simple and just do a bold lip. Consider your make-up look when attempting to pull a mixed plaids look together. It’s easy for this to go south fast, so I always say keep it simple, but fun with the makeup and don’t take yourself too seriously. I opted for the Lava Lamp red lip gloss by Ouifresh. Shop this lippy here if you’re diggin it as much as I am.

By the way, my mustard yellow beret and plaid blazer are both thrifted finds. The beret was a whopping $1 and I can’t quite remember the price of the blazer, but is was dirt cheap. Say it with me guys #winning.

Anyway, I hope this helps kick start your plaid mixing adventures.

Till next time!

Sincerely,

CUSTOM RESORT WEAR WITH BEAUTIQUE STYLES

And while in Costa Rica we bring out the big guns and wear the brightest outfit possible on the beach in a sea full of people wearing your basic black and whites, LOL. Yes, I said it and yes I did it. Costa Rica wasn’t ready for me, or were they?

I know it’s been awhile since I’ve posted. Out here super busy trying to graduate and all, so photos from Costa Rica have been on delay while I get my life together. Legit wrote a 50 page capstone paper in less than two weeks. Yes, ladies and gentleman, I’m an avid, but professional procrastinator. Too much time to think about things means I overthink, so I often wait until there is a little pressure before I delivery the best work of my life. This explains the mounting patch of gray hairs making a home front and center at the top of my head, LOL. Yup, #thestruggleisreal but only because I refuse to do better, LOL.

On another note, if you’re in need of some custom beachwear/resortwear you should definitely check out my girl Shalonda Walker of Beautique Styles. She made this fun green and orange number I was rocking at Jaco Beach in Costa Rica a few weeks back. She does custom designs for all shapes and sizes and she is so professional and quick too. I’m a forever customer, that’s for sure. You can check her out on Instagram at: @beautiquestyles. DM her for inquires.

Welp, that’s all for now everyone, I’ll be back with the first set of travel photos from my trip to CR. If you absolutely can’t wait, feel free to check out a few on our photography page on Instagram or Facebook, @craigspick.

Till next time.

Sincerely,

A FALL LOOK WITH BLOWFISH MALIBU

Me and my fave blogger friends hit the road last week and headed to DJ’s Berry Patch in Cary, NC to snap some shots that showcase some of our fave fall looks because why not! It’s fall yall! Anywho, I’m so thankful to have teamed up with Blowfish Malibu again to bring you the cutest little fall green booties. I was a bit reluctant to wear them as I was unsure how to style these boots. You all know me, I’m all about the bright colors and this color was certainly a new look for me, but what do you think? Think I pulled off an effortless fall look or nah? LOL 😂

My Blowfish Malibu booties are now a staple in my fall looks for this season. I realize that just because they are not the brightest color in the crayon box, doesn’t mean they don’t get or deserve the same love. With that being said, aside from the look I’m featuring in this post, I plan to challenge myself this fall season and share a few more fall looks with these booties because lets face it, I need to be better about mixing the dark fall pieces with my own colorful flair in my outfits. In this case, I’ve added some fun plaid pants to complete the look and I did some layering. I know, I know, I just can’t help myself when it comes to the colors and prints. Nothing in my closet is practical. Well, nothing in my closet was practical until these booties hit my closet. It’s definitely a game changer now.

So what boots or shoes are you wracking up on or styling this fall?

Till next time.

Sincerely,

Deidra Marie
