COLOR FEELS

Never did like the color red. It was just never my color. Didn’t know how to wear it, style it and the color was honestly a bit intimidating, but I can now say I own two red dresses, a red blazer and several red lipsticks. Why oh why do I do this to myself, LOL. It literally is one of those colors you can’t hate completely. This color makes me feel beautiful, powerful, confident and independent. With all of that said, it really is hard to hate this color and hard not purchase a few thrifted dresses in this color. In case I haven’t told you, I dress according to mood. This includes color selection. Thought I’d share this post on what colors mean to me and how they make me feel. Now, this is top secret information so don’t go sharing this with the whole world, LOL.

RED
I wear this color when I’m feeling SUPER confident. This is also my go to color for a romantic night out on the town. This was one of the colors for my wedding. It is also one of the colors for Charlie’s fraternity. This color holds a lot of meaning but it took awhile for me to feel comfortable wearing it. Just know, if I’m wearing red, I’m feeling like I can conquer the world.

ORANGE
Ahh, this color is another color that simply had to grow on me. It is strong, bold and out there. I more often than not wear this color when I feeling random. You’ll never see it coming when I decide to wear this color, but when I do, it’s because I’m feeling adventurous, unpredictable, spontaneous, and youthful. Orange makes me feel young and free.

YELLOW
I rarely wear this color, not because I don’t like it but because there are certain shades of yellow that don’t do me any justice. I love a good mustard yellow. You’ll often see me rock that color in the fall. It gives me the warm and fuzzies and I feel like I should be in England somewhere drinking a spot of tea. I don’t know why but that’s how it makes me feel. LOL.

GREEN
If you know me you know that this is my favorite color! This color makes me feel hopeful. It represents new beginnings and I always wear this when I’m feeling like it’s time for a fresh start, a shift, or a transition. I wear this when things change, when I feel revelation or an epiphany coming. I wear this when I’m wanting to start fresh. I wear this color often. It brings life, hope, and renewal.

BLUE/NAVY
Believe it or not, blue is a staple in my closet. I wear this color with everything. Blue jeans are clearly a given but I wear it often for work. This color makes me feel mature, practical and realistic. When I don’t feel like standing out in the crowd I wear blue. It’s one of those colors that you can’t go wrong wearing. I wear it to big meetings at work, formal church events and it’s definitely a go to for weddings.

PURPLE
I can honestly say I don’t wear this color often. I forget about this color a lot. When I go thrifting at the Goodwill I pass the purple section up. I do own a few pieces in this color and can honestly say the few pieces I’ve worn in this color have been for funerals. More recently the funeral of my grandmother who passed away last Christmas eve. This color does make me sad sometimes as it was her favorite color. When I wear it, I think of her. It is a reminder of her life and what she meant to me.

NEUTRALS (WHITES, BLACKS, TANS)
I wear these ALL. THE. TIME. These colors are my safety colors. When in doubt, wear these colors. These colors make me feel in control. You can’t go wrong when you’re wearing these colors. Well except for white, this can be stained but these colors for the most part make me feel like I have a handle on things, like I have my stuff together and I know what I’m doing.

How do colors make you feel? Curious to know if anything I’ve said aligns with you.

Have a good week!

Sincerely,

Deidra Craig

ROAD TRIP ESSENTIALS AND TIPS

Ahh, nothing like a good ole road trip for fall break. Don’t let these pictures fool you, Charles and I were a complete hot mess traveling this time around. And when I mean hot mess, I mean, we basically booked this trip a few days before, I packed like 2 outfits (which for me is like equivalent to packing NOTHING) we stayed in a semi-alright hotel, and wandered the city of Charleston with no plans, just kind of going with the wind. If anyone knows Charlie, they know this man absolutely refuses to walk into anything without a plan. We’ve just been so busy with photography gigs lately we forgot to plan. It was actually kind of fun if you ask me. I love kind of going with the flow, figuring things out as I go and just seeing where the wind takes me. If you’re not like me, I suggest reading on for my road trip essentials and road trip travel tips.

MEAL PREP
I can’t stand meal prepping but it’s an amazing feeling waking up, grabbing your snack to go and not having to prepare it for the week, the same applies for road tripping. Convienient store snacks are EXPENSIVE and lets just be honest, they’re processed and unhealthy, so meal prep is a good idea and ends up being cheaper in the long run. If you’re like me, you still want to keep things healthy so try packing some grapes, yogurt, or dry food that does not need to be refrigerated, like granola or dried fruit. If you want the full road trip experience, it doesn’t hurt to grab some junk food at the gas station, I do it every now and then.
Meal Prep Essential: Cooler: This keeps your snacks fresh and beverages cool.

PACK FOR ANY AND EVERYTHING
If you’re road tripping without a plan, pack for potential activities such as a bathing suit for water activities, sneakers for your outdoor activities, and extra under garments and socks never hurt anybody. Oh, don’t forget to pack at least one dressy outfit for a fancy night on the town.
Pack Prep Essential: Packing check list. I’ve recently started using one of these just because I LITERALLY forget something every time we travel.

MAP NOT GPS
If you’re like Charlie and I, we like traveling to remote locations in the middle of nowhere because we like to get away from the hustle and bustle of Raleigh city life. The middle of nowhere = no wifi connection so we recently started keeping a map in the car for those moments where technology fails us.
Essential: Maps can be found at most gas stations, grab you one and don’t get lost! 🙂

FIRST AID AND PAIN PILLS
Let’s face it, no one is superman and things happen, so we ALWAYS keep a first aid kit as well as pain relievers in the car for those special moments of clumsiness.
Essential: First aid kit and pain relievers can be found at any store like Target or Walmart

OIL AND TIRES
We always make sure to get our oil changed if needed prior to a road trip, and we always make sure we have a spare tire and the tools to change a tire in the car and ready to go. Don’t get stuck on the road in the middle of nowhere because you forgot to do these things prior to road tripping.
Essential: Spare Tires and tools can be purchased at your local auto and as far as an oil change is concerned, the same can be done at most auto places like Mienke or Jiffy Lube.

FLASHLIGHT
Having a flashlight in the car is also not a bad idea. What if your tire gives at night and the  the flashlight on your phone isn’t working? A cellphone is great but having a backup is always a good idea.
Essential: Flashlight can be found at any store like Target or Walmart

CAR CHARGER
The car charger is something we keep on hand at ALL times. Even if our phone has no connection, a fully charged phone is always nice to have as you may be able to send a text message and or dial out 911.
Essential: Car charger can be found at any store like Target or Walmart

Hope these tips and road trip essentials help. By the way, my dress is from Gap and shoes are DSW but no longer available for purchase.

Happy road tripping!

Sincerely,

MULTICOLORED BLAZER WITH VIN’TIJ KANDI BOUTIQUE

I’ve searched high and low for a blazer like this and I FINALLY found one. It’s light-weight, bright, and easy to pack. Every single color in this blazer is just simply divine. You know me, the more colors the better. I must admit, I was a bit nervous about the fit as with any vintage shop that gives no refunds, you are taking a chance, but I measured myself and compared the jacket measurements and things looked right and the blazer fit perfect, thank the Lord. I purchased this blazer from the Vin’tij Kandi Boutique Instagram page and have been Instagram stalking them ever since, LOL. I currently have my eyes on a navy multi-colored pinstripe blazer. I know, I’m terrible. Help me do better ya’lls.

There are endless options with a blazer like this. You can pair with black bottoms, a cute mini skirt, dress it down with some denim of any color, you can most certainly rock this with a bright colored short too. In my case, I paired it with some blue flared denim and a cute copper colored heel. Remember, have fun with colors, don’t be afraid to mix them with patterns, other colors, darks, lights, and fun makeup, and when in doubt, pair it with black or white to tone it down for a more conservative look.

I’m beat from this weekend so I’m going to stop typing now and grab me a cup of Joe. Stay tuned for all the deets on my trip to Charleston, SC coming to the blog soon. In the meantime, check out my linked items above. Happy Shopping.

Sincerely,

Deidra Marie
