AMERICAN WOMAN

I’m waving my American flag and and kindly surrendering to this poor NC weather. 😦 It’s kind of a bummer that my plans to cookout are now officially derailed by this unforgivable, unpredictable NC rain that’s headed our way in the next few hours. Grrr, so wanted to sip on my cold cream soda and enjoy hot dogs and hamburgers in my backyard. We are still having guest come over the house and food on the grill today but it just won’t be the same with not a sun ray in sight.  If you don’t know, Netflix is a must when the rain makes my fourth of July cookout plans a bust. Ha ha, rhymes.
While I am not to happy about this terrible weather, I’m am happy to share the deets on this cute little mock neck tie-dyed mini dress I’m rocking from Rue21. I’ve taken a bit of a liking to Rue21. I find some of the most eclectic and affordable pieces from their online store. This dress can pretty much be worn to any beach outing or summer cookout. This dress has me feeling like Jimi Hendrix girlfriend or some rocker stars girlfriend from Woodstock. Ha, it’s funny how my clothes always seem to transport me to another decade. Did I ever share with you that I’m a bit obsessed with the 70’s. Yes, I truly believe I should have been born in this decade. Matter of fact, I went to a 70’s birthday party and literally didn’t have to buy an outfit for the occasion 🙂 Guess my wardrobe is out of date, I like to say it’s just trendy. 😉
Just in case you’re wondering, the multi-colored thread earrings I’m wearing were hand made by one of my Nigerian friends. She loves making her own jewelry and I love taking it; the perks of having a artsy fartsy friend.
May your burgers and hot dogs rest safely in their buns and may the weather not ruin your perfect 4th of July festivities.
Happy 4th yall’s!
Sincerely,
Deidra Marie

ANOTHER VINTAGE LOOK

Kicking off my marvelous Monday with some vintage love. Charlie and I were in Henderson, NC for a church service this past Sunday and I just had to get some pics of my yellow dress. It’s been collecting dust in my closet and this was a better time than any to break out for a wear. I’m kind of loving this whole vintage look. I’ve began collecting quite a few vintage inspired pieces. I feel the clothes really never go out of style and have the ability to be updated to a more modern look if you want. I like to invest in wardrobe pieces that have a timeless feel to them and can be mixed and matched with just about anything. I purchased this little yellow number from the Ann Taylor Loft last year during their fall sale. It’s a fall dress but the length and sleeve kind of make it wearable for any season. I paired it with some cuter green t-strap block heels. This is my second pair of t-strap block heels. They had so many colors to choose from but Green is my favorite color so the decision wasn’t that hard to make. I have a few dinners coming up this week and might break out these heels for dining and dancing. Wishing you lovelies a fabulous week.
Sincerely,
Deidra Marie

VINTAGE LOOK WITH eShakti

I’m in love with something cherry red and white. Bet you didn’t guess it’s this amazing vintage dress. I was having a bit of a Dorthy Dandridge from Carmen Jones moment in this dress and was dying to share all the deets on this little red and white number from eShakti.com

I couldn’t wait to slip this dress on and strut my stuff around town. I added a touch of red lipstick, cute t-strap heels and oversized pearl earrings to play up this fun and flirty look. I was a bit reluctant about the red lipstick because it’s such a bold color to wear on your lips, but I figured this dress was a statement and thought my make-up should be too, so I just went for it. I had fun playing this look up, but aside from the fun of getting all dolled up for my night out with the hubby, I was pleased with my overall shopping experience with eShakti. This lightweight cotton dress is fresh, timeless and can be worn for many different occasions. I have to admit, when I put it on I felt like I was being transported to the Harlem Renaissance period at some swanky Jazz lounge being serenaded by the sounds of Duke Ellington. This dress let my imagination run away with me.

If your not much of a mall shopper but you’re on the hunt for a trendy dress that fits just right, eShakti.com is an awesome online store I highly recommend shopping. I’m not one of those women that can just go into a store and buy something right off the rack, sometimes my items have to be altered; so I was excited to find out that I could customize my dress, pants, or top for just $9.95. They provide simple instructions on how to measure, enter in your measurements for the item you want to purchase and Voila! Aside from being able to customize my dress for the perfect fit, I was really able to narrow down my dress search. I knew I wanted a red dress so I used the filter tool to search for red dresses. Doesn’t get any simpler than that. Allow me to put the icing on the cake and share that I also had the option of getting my dress with or without pockets, choosing the width of my dress straps and choosing my dress length (tea-length in this case).

<> In case you’re wondering, i’m currently obsessing over the
Blue-Red Brooklyn Dress. I’m thinking this dress will transport me to a fun summer week in Cali, all expenses paid of course :).
