LOC METHOD WITH MIELLE ORGANICS

I’ve been ranting and raving Mielle Organics Haircare Line, but never really shared specifically how I incorporate these products into my routine. I’m a huge fan of the LOC Method. It pretty much guarantees my curls and could won’t dry out mid-week. Depending on the hairstyle, I can get about 4-5 days of wear using the LOC Method. One of the most important steps in my weekly routine is deep conditioning. I typically deep condition about once a week just because I work out about 5 days a week and by the end of the week the sweat has dried each and every strand of hair out. If it’s really bad, I co-wash mid-week. to sum things up, my hair is fully immersed in was about 1-2 times a week. I’ve noticed this routine has really worked for me. I see less tangles, less breakage and more length retention. While I’m not concerned about length to much, it’s nice to have when winter comes and you are itching for a blowout. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll be the first to take some scissors and cap my hair but these days I’ve gotten my routine down to a science and under 2 hours so I’m not as irritated as I was in the past. I have the LOC Method to thank for that.
LOC Method is basically layering on product for moisture retention. Leave in conditioner first, Oil to seal and lastly a Cream or style of your choice. This method is pretty much how my hair has survived these scorching NC days.

I use the following Mielle Organics Haircare Line products for the LOC Method:

The The Mint Almond Oil has a very thick consistency and really penetrates the hair. If you’ve read my previous post, you know I use the Mielle Organics Babassu Deep Conditioner for may deep conditioning. I’ve been pretty consistent with this method and have had exceptional results, less single strand knots, less hair shed, and I noticed my hair is shinier as well. Of course, I’ll continue to experiment with other products but MO has not failed me yet so I’ll stick to what I know. You know what they say “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it”.

MIELLE ORGANICS PRODUCT REVIEW

Mielle Organics Babassu Oil Mint Deep Conditioner

Hi everyone, my name is Deidra and I’m a product junkie. I’ve struggled with this addiction for years and have sought help on multiple occasions but just can’t seem to kick the habit and I’m not really sure I want to. Ha, what a great way to start off my post with confessions of my addictions to hair and beauty products. Now that we got all that out the way, shall we get down to the nitty gritty?

If your a product junkie like me, then you know all to well about the hottest, latest and greatest products on the market. It only takes one good promotional email raving about the newest product on the shelves and instantly I’m in my car headed to the nearest Target to see what all the buzz is about. This wasn’t the case with Mielle Organics. I was casually scrolling through Instagram when I came across a video post of a girl showing her hair results after using the Mielle Organics Babassu Mint Almond Oil Deep Conditioner for the first time. Her curls were luscious, detangled and ultra defined! I fell in love instantly, headed straight home and made my first purchase at Mielle Organics. I ordered a bundle package because it is my belief that you can never really weigh the effectiveness of any product from a product line if you don’t sample at least a few items from the product line all together. Most product line items are designed to work together, this explains why a lot of product instructions usually start off with a sentence like

“For best results, follow up with…___insert product name_________ ”

Please Check the pros and cons of my Mielle Organics experience.

Pros

  • MO Deep Conditioner smells minty and fresh
  • MO Deep Conditioner leaves my curls bouncy defined and adds a great moisture protein balance to my hair regimen.
  • MO Shampoo is ultra moisturizing yet still cleanses effectively
  • MO Shampoo thin consistency is easy to work through extremely dense hair and really exfoliates the scalp

Cons

  • I was not a fan of the MO co-wash. This item didn’t get my hair clean and I had to use so much in order for it to feel like it was cleansing my strands. The product is very light weight, thin and runny. I did like the slip but my hair didn’t feel as clean compared to other conditioners I’ve used for co-washing.
  • The cost of MO products are reasonably priced, but I have seen effective hair lines on the market that are lower in price as well.
  • Up until a about 4 months ago, I had to order my products online because there were no locations that sold this item but now there are some Sally’s Beauty stores that now sell the MO line.
  • I love the MO hair milk, but I have to use this item in conjunction with an oil as it is not as moisturizing as I’d like. My hair is extremely dense so I have to thoroughly comb products through to make sure every strand gets some product. FYI-layering multiple products on my hair is necessary.
Overall, I truly enjoy this line. No hair care line is perfect, but this line meets almost all of my hair care needs (detangling, moisture-protein balance, curl definition). I have been a faithful consumer for over a year now and am very satisfied. If you are on the market for an all natural, organic hair care line, I highly recommend Mielle Organics.

FRIDAY BREW: CO-WASHING

Enjoying my fav, a delicious iced hazelnut coffee with cream and discussing the hair cleansing technique called co-washing. This article is a repost that I wrote from a few  years back but is always so informative for new naturals and those in transition or those who’d like to revisit this technique again. It’s all about the basics and co-washing is one of them. Hope you enjoy!

What is co-washing?

Co-washing is using conditioner to cleanse your hair and scalp in replacement of shampoo. Many curlies opt to shampoo once a month or even twice or month. Co-washing is another way to cleanse  your hair without stripping the hair of its natural oils. It relieves overly dry hair from the stress of harsh shampoos and clarifiers. While
co-washing can cleanse the hair and scalp, build-up can still be left behind so clarifying the hair and scalp at least once a month is recommended.

What if I choose to do no poo?

If you choose to do no poo you must find alternative methods of cleansing as co-washing will not be able to clarify the hair and scalp in its entirety.  Don’t be dismayed, there are options for those curlies who choose to do no poo.

  • Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse/ACV  Rinse
  • Rosemary Rinse
  • Baking Soda
  • Bentonite Clay

These are all alternative methods that for many naturals, get the job done.

How often should I co-wash?

There is no specific amount of times a natural should Co-wash. It is all based on personal preference . It is important to listen to your hair and observe what it needs. Split ends mean it is time for a trim, Co-washing means it is time for a  wash, shampooing or clarifying means it is time to cleanse when co-washing is not catching all the build up. For me, it is only necessary to clarify once a month  as for the other three weeks out of the month, I just co-wash.

What is the best conditioner to co-wash with?

You want to co-wash with a conditioner that has a lot of slip and is water soluble. Deep conditioners and leave-in conditioners are meant to stick to the hair for extra moisture so those will not be effective in cleansing the hair and scalp but they rather stick to the hair and do not remove build-up. Avoid conditioners with silicones, silicones stick to the hair and reduce frizz but can only be removed with shampoo. Over time silicones build up on the hair causing loose or limp curl definition. Here is a list of some water soluble conditioners I like to co-wash with.

So how do I co-wash exactly?

Pretty simple actually. Take your conditioner of choice and massage and work into wet scalp and hair as you would shampoo. Rinse and repeat if necessary. Those with hair that gets tangled very easily: co-washing in the shower with your hair sectioned makes finger detangling less of  a hassle. Let your hair run under the shower stream and see how easy it is to get shed hair and tangles out quicker. Another method would be to wet your hair under the sink or with a spray bottle then work conditioner in hair and scalp and then get in the shower to remove conditioner. Both ways work well for me but co-washing while in the shower seems to be the quickest way and is of course lazy girl approved.

Happy Co-Washing!
