GELE ANYONE?

I said I’d provide a few snippets from the wedding I was in a few weeks back and here they are. You can clearly see I’m mostly obsessed with the head wrap or what my Nigerian beauties would call a “Gele”. The gele is one of the ultimate symbols of African royalty and has a rich history behind it. There are many different names for this head wrap in different regions of Africa but one thing is for sure, they are colorful, come in so many different fabrics, prints, textures and have their own special stories behind them. I was honored to be crowned in one of these for my dear friends wedding a few weeks back. The food was amazing, our dresses were amazing, the dancing was AMAZING, but nothing compared to the gele. Where will I wear this head wrap again? I literally have no clue, but I’ve spent several days coming up with ideas and am hoping my friend has another Nigerian event so I can wear my gele and brag about it on the Internet, LOL.

Do you see me and my dance partner getting down on the dance floor? He did a good job but uh, he’s not my Charlie, LOL. Nonetheless, I had an amazing time and am truly honored to have been apart of this.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go dance around the house in my gele and pretend Charlie and the cats aren’t looking at me like I’m looney.

#happyhumpday everyone!

Sincerely,

Deidra Marie

BIRTHDAY BRUNCH

Since I finally got a chance to breath and relax for a milli second, I thought I’d share some of the photos from my good friends 23rd birthday brunch. I know I know, this totally happened like weeks ago but I’ve been on hiatus from blogging for a hot minute, but I’m back and ready for action. School has really picked up and work is crazy right now so blogging unfortunately, had to take a back seat, but I’m back for a full report.

Isn’t my friend Oz a beaut!? I know what your thinking, 23! She’s practically a baby, huh? In any case, she enjoyed her bday and I was so happy to see her. Thank God for another year, #theglowup. I feel like we often get better looking with age. If this is 23, I can’t wait to see this beaut at 30. She’s going to be smoking hot!

Shout out to you Oz. Love you to the moon and back.

In case you’re wondering, I’m rounding up some new content with amazing color packed outfits. #staytuned.

Sincerely,

Deidra Marie

MEMORIAL DAY IN ASHEVILLE, NC

When in Asheville, hike until your legs fall off, and that ladies and gentlemen is exactly what we did. This was our first visit to the NC mountains, and I must say, this place is absolutely breathtaking! It kind of reminded me of Saint Lucia with all the uphill winding roads, but instead of lush green hanging palm trees, it was covered in pine trees, such green pine trees might I add. We stopped at two very cool museums while we were there; a folk art museum and the museum at Grandfather Mountain. I’m not gonna even lie, I  have a huge fear of heights so this was definitely taking a BIG step out on faith to hike up this mountain, but I think I’ve conquered my fear. In all honesty, it’s not so much the heights I’m fearful of as it is the falling to my death. Not to be morbid or anything, but I’d much prefer to go out a different way, perhaps a peaceful sleep near the beach or something, LOL. In any case, I did not fall off a cliff, and Charlie and I made it about halfway up the mountain, success in my eyes. He was a little disappointed, but we simply couldn’t walk anymore, our legs were about to give in and we weren’t looking forward to a 4 hour drive back to the city. Guess what? We drove 4 hours back to the city, made it home about 8:30ish, just enough time to catch an episode on Netflix.
Hope you had a nice long memorial day weekend and thanks to all those who served and sacrificed their lives for ours. Stay tuned, I have a cute little top I’m featuring on the blog this week and more highlights from my 7 day island adventures, next stop, Saint Lucia!
Happy week!
Sincerely,
Deidra Marie
