It was great to end our 7 day cruise on a good note, and spend a few days touring Old San Juan. After we checked into our hotel we went in search of some good, authentic Puerto Rican food, stopped by this random restaurant off the street and ate the best yellow rice, veggies and chicken EVER, then went back to the hotel and slept till dark, woke up again and found some more grub at he cutest little restaurant called Mojito’s. They literally have the best plantains around town. The next day we did what any typical tourist would do, we toured the city and spent most of the day at the San Juan National Historic site, the Castillo San Cristobal Fortress. The admission was cheap, and we got there right before they shut it down for the day. They closed early because there were rumors of a protest. We had to leave for the airport extremely early because the protest was rumored to slow traffic and cause a major commotion around town. Thankfully we made it out safe and on the flight home in time the next day.

Stay tuned for part two of our San Juan adventures.

Sincerely,

Deidra Marie

And now for the second to last island on our May visit, the beautiful, breathtaking, Barbados. This island was particularly special because my father’s side of the family is from here. As a child, I’ve always wanted to see what this place looked like. While I don’t know any of my family here and this is my first visit to this island, I did feel a special connection to this place and honestly felt right at home. We had an amazing tour guide although I have to be honest, I can’t for the life of me remember that dudes name, but he was very nice and took us all around the island. He let us get out and explore the oldest church on the island. There is so much rich history tucked away on this island, and he went into serious detail about the cattle export with the English, slave trade, housing in Barbados, and so much more, he even showed us Rhianna’s old stomping grounds, the house she grew up in, and the decked out condo she owns on the other side of the island now. Just in case you are wondering, I did not see Rhianna, LOL. To complete our tour, we relaxed on one of the amazing beaches just outside the city. The water was AMAZING! Charles and I took the jet ski’s out for a spin and got as much sun as possible. I then found a comfy spot on the beach and began to jot down all the reasons why I should purchase a property in Barbados, none of my reasons changed the fact that I literally have no money to do so, LOL, but the thought of it was nice. This is definitely one island Charles and I plan on flying to in the future for sure.

The black maxi dress I’m wearing is from Loveculture a few years ago, but I’ve placed a link up top for you to browse some similar Maxi’s, courtesy of Forever21. I got the sunnies from a souvenir shop in Antigua.

Have a great week!

Sincerely,

Deidra Craig

Okay, back to our island adventures. I really debated whether I should share each island recap back to back on the blog or spread it out so you wouldn’t get annoyed with the same old content for weeks on end. Obviously, the best decision was to spread it out with a few fashion and beauty finds in between each post. Looking at these pics weeks and weeks later makes me lethargic and I’m now experiencing some serious wanderlust, and officially want to go back to Saint Lucia for a few days.

This was one of my all time fav islands to visit last month. It’s the only island we visited and decided not to take a beach trip. We were so exhausted from our visit to Antigua that we just wanted a day to recover and just enjoy some views, and what better place to do it than on an island made up of mostly rain forest. We met up with this really cool tour guide named Nelbert. He was so chill and charged us very little for what was literally a 5 hour tour around Saint Lucia. We drove around the rain forest, took a dip in the biggest waterfall, hung out with the locals, ate some food that looked like bread made from tree bark (a local snack, and I have no idea the name of it at the moment). It was just a very relaxed day getting to know the locals and life in Lucia. It rained almost the WHOLE day but it was great because before boarding the ship to our next destination, the sun came out and hit the ocean in the most beautiful way. I wanted to jump off the ship and run to the nearest beach to snap more pics. All in all, this island visit was amazing. I to come back and retreat here before grad school. Prob not gonna happen though. Reality has kicked in and my life is officially over as of end of June. I know, so sad. 😦

Happy hump day ya’ll!

Sincerely,

Deidra Marie
